The PM Vishwakarma Yojana is a government scheme introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15th August 2023 during his speech at Red Fort. The scheme aims to support small-scale business owners with a special focus on traditionally talented artisans and craftspeople in our country who are facing major problems like lack of money, which stops them from living better lives despite having their skills. That’s why, the Union Cabinet, on 16th August,2023, nodded to implement this scheme in India. On 17th September 2023, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Vishwakarma Yojana to support the traditional artisans and craftspeople working with their hands and elementary tools so that they improve the quality of their products and also integrate them with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise(MSME) value. This scheme empowers small-scale business owners having skilled knowledge. The full name of the scheme is PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana. It is also known as PM Vikas Yojana. The PM Vishwakarma Yojana will train and guide the skilled artisans who need support to improve the quality of their products. The government wants to make the artisans and the craftspeople financially strong as their lives become better than earlier and help them contribute more to our country.

PM Vishwakarma Yojana was introduced to provide support to the talented traditional artisans and craftspeople as they can contribute more to our country. The following are the objectives of PM Vishwakarma Yojana:
- Recognize all the Indian artists and craftspeople as Vishwakarma and provide commercial and other advantages.
- Modernize the manufacturing equipments and improve efficiency of the artists as the quality of the product increased.

- The Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman introduced PM Vishwakarma Yojana in her budget address 2023-24.
- This Yojana is designed to create job opportunities to the community and improve their financial situation.
- Millions of artisans across the country, who make products with their handheld tools will be directly benefitted from this scheme.
- The scheme will provide training for self-employment and assist traditional artisans in marketing their products.
- The scheme will be accessible to SC, ST, OBC, Women, Tribal and other marginalized sections of the society.

PM VISHWAKARMA YOJANA ELIGIBILITIES:
There are certain criteria to fulfill the eligibility for the scheme. They are mentioned below.
- The applicant must be a citizen of India.
- The applicant must be above 18 years old.
- The applicant should be engaged in any one of the 18 traditional skill trades covered by the scheme.
- The benefit will get only one member of a family.
PM VISHWAKARMA YOJANA BENEFITS:
The Scheme envisages provisioning of the following benefits to the artisans and crafts persons:
- Recognition: The artisans and craftspeople will be recognize through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card.
- Skill Upgradation: A Basic Training will be provided to the artisans and crafts person which is 5-7 days and Advanced Training of 15 days or more, with a stipend of Rs. 500 per day.
- Toolkit Incentive: At the beginning of Basic Training, a toolkit incentive of upto Rs. 15,000 in the form of e-vouchers.
- Credit Support: A Collateral free Loan will be provided in two tranches of Rs.1,00,000 and Rs.2,00,000 with tenures of 18 months and 30 months respectively at concessional rate of interest at 5%, with Govt. of India Subvention to the extent of 8%. After completion of Basic Training, the beneficiaries will be eligible to avail for the first tranche of Rs.1,00,000. Then the second loan tranche will be eligible to avail to the beneficiaries who have availed the 1st tranche and maintained a standard loan account and have adopted digital transactions in their business or have undergone Advanced Training.
- Incentive for Digital Transaction: Upto maximum 100 transactions, an amount of Re. 1 per digital transaction, will be credited monthly to the beneficiary’s account for each digital pay-out or receipt.
- Marketing Support: Making marketing support to the beneficiaries is an important fact. Marketing support will be provided to the artisans and craftspeople. The quality certification, branding, e-commerce platforms such as advertising, publicity and other marketing activities to improve better lives of traditional artisans and craftspeople than earlier ones.
PM VISHWAKARMA YOJANA BUDGET:
The budget is an important aspect of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. For Skill Development and Empowerment of the traditional artisans and crafts people, the Scheme has been allocated a budget ranging from Rs 13,000 crore for five financial years from 2023-2024 to 2027-2028. The scheme offers a stipend of Rs 500 for skill training per day and Rs 15,000 grant for the purchase of modern tools.
