The abbreviation of PRANAM stands for Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth. The PM PRANAM is a Government of India’s scheme which aims to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers by incentivizing states to adopt alternate fertilizers. Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman had announced the PM PRANAM scheme in her budget 2023-2024. Its aim is to promote alternate Fertilizers and balanced use of chemical fertilizers. Urea is the most used chemical fertilizer in the country, recorded an increase of 19.64% from 298 LMT in 2017-18 to 356.53 in 2021-22 in the last five years.
